How Do I Make a Dynamic QR Code in Canva?

Canva now makes a dynamic QR code natively: open Apps, search QR code, pick Dynamic QR codes, add your URL and save. Scan stats need a Business plan.

To make a dynamic QR code in Canva, open your design, select Apps, search “QR code”, and choose Dynamic QR codes. Pick a pattern, paste your link into the URL field, name the code, and select Save. You can change that link later without reprinting.

The catch is the plan. On Free and Pro, a Canva dynamic code carries the Canva logo and shows no scan stats. If you need either, the second method below puts an outside dynamic code into your Canva design instead.

Does Canva make dynamic QR codes now?

Canva does make dynamic QR codes now, natively. Its help center page on QR codes says “Canva has two QR code tools: Static QR Codes for a quick, fixed link, and Dynamic QR codes for a link you can update later and track.”

That surprises people, because many of the top search results still say the opposite. One widely shared vendor guide from February 2025 says Canva “only offers Static QR Codes,” and another, updated in July 2026, says Canva “does not have dynamic QR Codes.” Both are out of date for the editor you open today.

A static code stores your link inside the pattern itself. A dynamic code stores a short redirect link, so the destination can change while the printed pattern stays the same. Our guide to dynamic vs static QR codes goes further.

Method 1: Canva’s own dynamic QR code

Canva’s native dynamic code needs no other account or upload. These steps come from Canva’s help page.

  1. Open your design in the Canva editor.
  2. Select Apps and search “QR code”. Both Static QR codes and Dynamic QR codes appear. Choose Dynamic QR codes. (You can also go to Elements, search “QR code”, and pick Create dynamic from the banner.)
  3. Select a pattern.
  4. Paste the web address into the URL field.
  5. Give the code a name you’ll recognise later, such as “Spring flyer menu link”.
  6. Select Save. The code drops onto your page.

To change the link after printing, select the code, select Edit, update the URL and save. Canva warns that editing the pattern, corners, colors or logo is different: those change the printed image, so they mean a reprint.

Dynamic QR codes work on web and mobile, so you can do all of this from the phone app too.

What you get on each Canva plan

Canva’s dynamic code features depend heavily on your plan. Free and Pro get an editable link; scan data and a clean, logo-free code need Business, Enterprise or Nonprofit.

FeatureFree and ProBusiness, Enterprise, Nonprofit
Change the link after printingYesYes
Canva logo on the codeYes, by defaultCan remove or replace
Scan Insights (total, unique, location, device)Upgrade promptYes
Upload your own logoNoYes
Set an expiry dateNoYes
Let collaborators edit the codeNoYes

Two more rules from the same page matter before you print. First, you can’t convert a static code to dynamic or back: Canva’s answer is “No, in either direction.” Second, only the person who created a code can edit its URL by default, even if teammates can edit the design. If a freelancer builds your flyer, ask them to hand over the design before they leave, or the link stays in their account.

Method 2: Put an outside dynamic QR code into Canva

An outside dynamic QR code is the better route when you want scan stats without a Canva Business plan, or no Canva logo on the code. You make the code in a QR tool, then place it in Canva like any other image.

  1. Create a dynamic code in your QR tool and point it at your link.
  2. Download it as SVG for print (PNG works for screens).
  3. Upload the file to Canva and drag it onto your design.
  4. Resize it, keeping the clear border around it.
  5. Print one test copy and scan it with two different phones.

A second option skips the upload. Copy the dynamic code’s short link and paste it into Canva’s Static QR codes app. The static pattern then holds the redirect link, and the redirect is what you edit. That works with any provider, but test it the same way.

In QRAnalytica, a dynamic code downloads as SVG, PNG or JPEG, its destination can change without a reprint, and the dashboard shows scans by city, country, device and hour. If you’d rather not upgrade Canva, the free dynamic QR code generator is a way to try it.

Which method should you pick?

Pick based on what you need from the code after it’s printed.

  • Canva’s native code is fine if you only need to fix the link later and the Canva logo doesn’t bother you.
  • On Canva Business, the native code gives your team scan Insights inside Canva, which you already pay for.
  • An outside dynamic code fits if you want scan stats on a Free or Pro plan, UTM tags for Google Analytics, or one code used across tools other than Canva.

My take: for a one-off flyer, Canva’s native code is enough. For anything you print in volume, such as menus, packaging or signs, keep the code in a dedicated QR tool so the code and its data don’t live inside one design file owned by one person. The cost is dependence. An outside dynamic code only works while that provider’s redirect server stays up, and in our case that’s QRAnalytica’s.

How to make the code scan reliably

Size and spacing matter more than the generator. Canva’s own advice is to keep QR codes no smaller than 2 x 2 cm (0.79 x 0.79 in), avoid transparencies, and keep other content off the code.

Leave a clear border. DENSO WAVE, which invented the QR code, says “QR Code requires a four-module wide margin at all sides of a symbol.” In Canva that means don’t let a photo or text box run up to the edge of the code.

If you’re printing something viewed from a distance, such as a window poster, go bigger than the minimum. Our QR code size guide covers sizes for common print jobs, and what to do when a QR code won’t scan helps if a test copy fails.

FAQ

Does Canva make dynamic QR codes?

Yes. Canva’s help center now lists two tools, Static QR Codes and Dynamic QR codes. Dynamic codes let you change the link after printing and work on web and mobile.

Can I see how many people scanned my Canva QR code?

Only on Canva Business, Canva Enterprise or Canva for Nonprofit. Insights there shows total scans, unique scans, locations and device types. Free and Pro users see an upgrade prompt.

Why is there a Canva logo on my QR code?

Dynamic QR codes on Free, Pro and Education plans include the Canva logo by default. Static codes never do. Removing or replacing the logo needs Business or Enterprise.

Can I turn my existing static Canva QR code into a dynamic one?

No. Canva says conversion isn’t possible in either direction. Make a new dynamic code and swap it into the design before you print.

Do Canva dynamic QR codes expire?

Not unless you set an expiry date, which is a Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit feature. Without one, Canva says the code never expires.
